“My husband John and I adopted Daisy in the last months of his life following a long illness. After nearly 63 years of marriage, John’s passing was very hard. It’s now two years since his passing and the comfort Daisy has brought to my life has been wide reaching.

Daisy brings me joy and happiness; she’s with me all day. She loves me and I love her. She provides me with affection on a daily basis that I otherwise wouldn’t receive.

I feel that I need Daisy for emotional support, fitness and a sense of purpose. Having her is so significant in my life, I’d be a much sadder and incomplete person if I didn’t have her. She gives me a reason to get up in the morning. Every day I know I have 45 mins to get myself and Daisy up and out the door to allow Daisy to get outside and go to the toilet.

I live in an 18-story building and everyone knows Daisy – people always say hello to her before me! I have to take Daisy out six times a day and each time I do that, it gives me social contact with others that I would otherwise go without.

The sensory comfort I gain from patting and cuddling Daisy helps me enormously. With my hearing loss I’m unable to listen to music anymore and that used to be my source of relaxation. That’s one of the benefits that I now get from Daisy.

Being with SereneCare (home care service provider) has been incredibly helpful and I’m so grateful to have taken up the government-funded Home Care Package (HCP). Daisy wouldn’t be as healthy or as happy if we weren’t supported together through SereneCare and the HCP.
